Comic book barriers cracked and came down when Marvel created the first African American superhero, Black Panther. Black Panther was created in 1966 but was used for civil rights purposes. After that barrier was broken more and more comic books had African American superheros in them. This website goes through his story fighting the Ku Klux Klan, some of his comic apperences, about Black Panther, some of the politics around Black Panther, Jack Kirby who made Black Panther and his Legacy.
